blindsided 02:55
what if i told you what would you say would you wrap your arms around me or push me away i feel like i've been blindsided but my eyes are open wide to see you smile if i kissed those lips what would you do would your run your fingers through my hair and kiss me too i throw myself against those rocks and i hope to die poetically with you such a surprise that i don't know what to do and i wonder if you feel it to and i feel like i've been blindsided but my heart is open wide so come on in
2.
be together 03:44
we've got to be together while we can we've got to be together it took some time to help me realize the one already stood before my eyes a lot had happened and a year went by i was reminded why I had to try we've got to be together while we can let's spend our time together while we can life is short so be amazing while you can we've got to be together we had ideas from the very start we'd act like we had never been apart on your feet and gaining confidence you swept me up with glowing radiance we've got to be together while we can let's spend our time together while we can life is short so be amazing while you can we've got to be together i think one hundred years could come and go a life without you is one i'll never know and if i die tomorrow i could say we won because we lived for today we've got to be together while we can let's spend our time together while we can life is short so be amazing while you can we've got to be together we've got to be together
3.
stay 02:59
waiting for this moment i can hardly breathe then i saw you standing there i knew my life would change if you just stay for a little while i live for the moment i can see you smile it's funny how the little things make your life worthwhile if you just stay for a little while
4.
i remember the last time i saw you you said you'd never be with me now, as your lying in my bed i think of all those things you said you didn't mean i wish that i could fly holding you forever high up above the sky holding you forever

about

The Depth and The Whisper

Kansas City musicians Albert Bickley and Dave Tanner formed The Depth and The Whisper in late 2010 as an avenue to share new songs and ideas.

Since then, the songwriting duo have pulled together some of the area’s best musical talents to bring the compositions to life on stage and in the studio. From a promising batch of preproduction demos, The Depth and The Whisper offered up its debut release in the summer of 2011, an EP of six songs titled One Steady Breath.

Songs on the debut are framed with openness and honestly that draw the listener to be part of the story. Producer and recording engineer John Velghe captured the sound intuitively at Guttersnipe Recording Co. during the spring of 2011.

From their first collaborations and all the way through the recording process, it was clear that the songs would come together quickly and maintain an organic feel. Each track aims big and bright just like the opening track, “New York” encourages.

“We do what we feel is right for the song. Nothing more, nothing less,” Albert said during production. That has since become a mantra of sorts for the players on stage and in the studio.

A Kansas City native, Albert Bickley has been writing, recording and performing original music for years. Everything, including other bands he’s been in, have led to this moment and this project, he says.

Dave Tanner, a Canadian who calls Parkville, MO, home, has played bass in numerous bands through the years from rock and heavy metal to folk and punk. He also currently plays in Liverpool: A Tribute to The Beatles.

Together they formed The Depth and The Whisper without preconception or pretense, and have let the music carve out its own course.

“It’s difficult to answer typical questions such as, ‘What do you guys sound like?’ when we try to remain free of those preconceptions,” Dave says. “The only way to get to know us is to listen and form your own opinions.”

Go-Go Ray (drums), Troy Van Horn (lead guitar), John Velghe (keyboard/Rhodes) and Elaine McMilian (backing vocals) round out the band’s sound in the studio and on stage. It’s been evident since day one that this group would put out something meaningful, and that continues to reveal itself with each passing accolade.

Of the local radio shows in Kansas City that have featured The Depth and The Whisper so far, each has selected a different track from One Steady Breath to play. And among the friends of the band, all six songs have come up in conversation as someone’s favorite. With a growing batch of follow-up songs being considered for the next recording, it’s already evident that new favorites are on the way.

about

the Depth and the Whisper New York, New York

You probably know what we sound like more than we do. We just write and let the song be what it was meant to be. If we feel it, we go with it.

The compositions are framed with openness and honesty, aiming big and bright without sacrificing an organic feel. Add a bit of tongue in cheek here and there, and you have a sound.

Basically, getting what's inside out... with passion.
